Orthokeratology (we’ll just call it ortho-k) is one of those treatments that sounds almost too good to be true until someone explains how it actually works: you wear a specially designed rigid lens overnight, it gently reshapes your cornea while you sleep, and you wake up seeing clearly without glasses or daytime contacts.
It’s popular with patients who play sports, work in dry or dusty environments, or just don’t want to deal with daytime contacts — and it’s also one of the more effective tools we have for slowing myopia progression in kids and teens.
A few things to know going in: - The effect is temporary and reverses if you stop wearing the lenses - Fitting takes a bit longer than standard contacts, since the lens is custom-designed to your cornea - Most patients notice clearer vision within the first few days, with full effect in one to two weeks.
We’ll walk you through whether your prescription and eye shape are a good match before committing to anything.
